OKLAHOMA LACROSSE Recent News OU Finishes 2008 Season - May 9, 2008
NORMAN, Okla. –May 1, 2008-- The OU Men’s Lacrosse team recently concluded its season, and ended with an 8-6 record. The Sooners showed great improvement from the 2007 season, in which they went 3-9.
The Sooners came out with good effort early in the season, but came up short in the first two games. OU lost to Texas Christian University 9-8, and then the following weekend to Fort Lewis 22-6.
The next two games turned out as strong wins for the Sooners, as they defeated the University of New Mexico 13-10, and LSU 14-10.
OU struggled through the next three games losing to Baylor 15-9, the University of North Texas 20-2, and Southern Methodist University 15-4.
The last set of games came in the Oklahoma Faceoff Classic hosted by the Sooners. OU had a great showing in the event, defeating four opponents, and losing in a very close game to Texas Tech, who went undefeated in the classic. OU defeated Kansas State 16-6, Oklahoma State 19-4, North Dakota 13-7, and Nebraska 16-3. The Texas Tech game came down to one point, and had a 14-13 finish.
The Sooners also had two forfeit games to their credit, against Stephen F. Austin and Arkansas.
Standout players in 2008 included Adam Hawbaker, Chrispy Hoover, and Ray Wilcox. Hawbaker had 18 goals on the season, Hoover had 20, and Wilcox had a team-high of 31 goals. Goalie Connor Zwinngi had a great season as well, with 206 saves, and a save percentage of .626, and even had a goal to his credit.
The Sooners will look to be competitive again in the Lone Star Alliance conference next season, but will do so without the assistance of seven seniors. Nevertheless, the young, promising talent remaining on the team should give the Sooners a good chance to keep improving in the next season and beyond.
